Our new nation-wide curriculum standards, the Common Core State Standards, are here! All teachers and administrators need to learn their hierarchical structure, terminology, and cross-curricular integration components. All educators need to catch the vision articulated in the CCSS for what a student who has mastered these standards will look like upon graduation. Our brand new Quill Core Launch workshop does this for general education and special education teaching staff, administrators, and ancillary staff.
This is an active, hands-on, one-day workshop where educators learn by working through a series of exercises. First, they learn the terminology, hierarchical structure, and coding system of the Common Core State Standards. Second, they are guided through a deep analysis of their students to learn how their students' abilities match up to CCSS expectations. Third, teachers begin to analyze the standards to develop a picture in their mind of what mastery of that standard would look like. Finally, teachers use components of the CCSS to explore a student's journey from Kindergarten through 12th grade to envision the citizen that will one day graduate from our schools.
Attendees are encouraged to work collaboratively, such as in grade-level groups, subject-area groups, or in special ed/general ed co-teaching teams. Therefore, it is ideal to send members of these groups to the workshop together.
The Quill Core Launch workshop is a prerequisite for all other workshops. A) Special education teachers must first attend Quill Core Launch before they can attend Quill Core Plus IEP. B) All educators planning on attending Quill Core Plus Instruction and Quill Core Plus Environment must first attend Quill Core Launch.
Materials: each attendee needs a Quill Core Manual and at least one subject area set of cards. The manual and card sets will also be used in all subsequent workshops. Both GE and SE teachers need card sets for every subject area, at every grade level that they teach. It is recommended that card sets at grade levels above and below students' enrolled grade levels be provided as well.
